The complete series includes one hat in each colour of the rainbow, a symbol representing hope during a dark time in our lives, made bearable by the spirit of resilience and fellow feeling of family, friends, neighbours and complete strangers. For me, the chullo conjures up fond memories of a remarkable holiday some years ago spent with the lovely people of Peru.
Knit in 4 ply yarn, the chullo has ear flaps which are knit flat and joined to the main body of the hat which is then continued in the round. The hat needs to be lined, either in full or with earflaps only. The optional pompoms are attached to the ear flaps with a twisted cord.
Instructions are given for 2 sizes –small/medium and medium/large.
